Man arrested for store robbery

Police arrested a 20-year-old man Wednesday in connection
with an armed robbery of the Crewe Road Mini Mart earlier in the day.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is
currently in police custody while enquiries continue.

Police said a man
armed with a machete entered the store and took money from the till around
10.20am Wednesday, 18 May.

A female cashier and two customers were
in the store at the time. No-one was injured during the robbery.

Witnesses said the robber was chased
from the scene by a customer, but got away, running towards Palmdale Drive.

The robber was described as dark
skinned, 6ft in height and of stocky build, wearing a three-quarter length dark
jean pants, a dark hoody and a red baseball cap. His face was covered by dark
cloth material.

Staff
at the store said this was at least the fifth time the store had been broken
into or robbed in recent years.

Anyone with information about the robbery is
asked to call George Town police station on 949-4222 or the confidential Crime
Stoppers number 800-8477(TIPS)

  1. Rainfall average is way down this year also, that do not mean it did not rain. Imagine someone desperate enough to rob a store with a cutlass, and criminals determine enough to dig under a bank to steal. Cayman demographics has changed and with it crime. Blaming the RCIP may pass on the frustration felt, but it is our children out there doing these things, the police is but an attempt to correct our failure.
