The Cayman Islands Olympic Fundraising committee rides in with the Royal Ascot theme, to benefit the athletes who are preparing for London Olympics next year.
The event, organised again by tireless campaigner Betty Baraud and the hardworking women of her team, is being hosted at the beautiful LUCA Restaurant, on the West Bay Road on 17 June and will replicate the grand horse racing week in the United Kingdom.
It features amazing entertainment, including a horse racing competition and a special appearance by Rod Stewart (Keith Griffin) and Paul McCartney (Papi Connolly).
In addition, the general public will have a rare opportunity to bid on the much sought after silver events ticket package to the Games, which includes accommodation at the 4 Star Novetel Hotel in London, opening ceremony tickets and event tickets to beach volleyball, equestrian, swimming, gymnastics and hockey. A majority of items will be up for grabs during a bidding frenzy.
In keeping with the theme, the evening attire will give gents and ladies the opportunity to step out in top hats for men, and beautiful hats and fascinators for women.
The couple wearing the most unique and authentic attire will win a fabulous prize. The music is by the internationally renowned European group, One World. “If you missed Project Runway, don’t miss the Royal Ascot for the finals,” said chairperson, Betty Baraud.
“We are encouraging the community to join us in congratulating Ronald Forbes, who has now qualified for the 2012 Olympics. Our own Jessica McTaggart has also qualified in equestrian, for the Pan American Games in October. This is the first time we are seeing an equestrian possibility for the Cayman Islands. So let us band together during the next 12 months and do our part in supporting our athletes with as many as seven who could go to the Olympics.”
Baraud welcomed two new silver sponsors recently, Kensington Management and Cayman National Group, both giving $5,000. Michael Gibbs, president of Kensington Management said: “We are proud to be a supporter of the Cayman Islands Olympic Fundraising committee and its selfless efforts to support Cayman’s athletes.
“The Olympics represent the pinnacle of achievement in an athlete’s career. It is therefore very important that the business community does its part in helping to provide them with the resources to achieve their dream to go faster, higher, stronger, in the same way that it offers scholarships to facilitate educational excellence and further develop the high standards of Cayman’s financial services industry.”
Current Sponsors of the Royal Ascot are, Cayman National Group, Kensington Management, Transocean Inc, Highlander and PwC. All proceeds raised during this event, as well as all future events leading up to the Games, will be presented monthly, under the supervision of the CIOC.
Tickets can be purchased at Baraud International, Nicole Wild at [email protected], or any committee member. Hats for the event can be purchased from our local milliner Laura Anderton 916 7754
