TripAdvisor accolade for Cayman Luxury Charters

A Cayman company has received a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

The accolade is awarded only to companies that consistently receive excellent ratings from members of the review and booking website.

Jane Van der Bol of Cayman Luxury Charters said the company’s rating of 5 (the maximum) reflected the actual feelings of travellers.

“TripAdvisor only hands these out to companies that have a consistent rating of 5. Cayman was just rated number one in the Caribbean and Mexico, and in the top 25 travel destinations in the world at number 22.

“That is awesome, and to get this at around the same time is really exciting for us. TripAdvisor is probably our number one referral for business. Probably 70 per cent of guests who come aboard our yacht say they saw us on TripAdvisor,” she said.

A high ranking for a company on the site is something of a seal of approval and gives potential customers and visitors confidence in booking. Because travellers themselves are rating the experience or destinations, it is seen as a reliable indicator of what is on offer.

“If people are going to look at a hotel, attraction or so on, they will make their decision based on [the ratings and reviews]. If somebody is ranked low or you are not in the top 20, most people are not going to look at you.”

Cayman Luxury Charters offers charters, tours and cruises on the 42-foot Cayman Elusion 420 Sundancer Sea Ray yacht, including weddings, parties and various tours and supper clubs.

Top 10 tours

TripAdvisor is among the world’s largest travel sites and comprises travel-related content, travel forums and interactive ratings systems.

The top 10 Cayman tours as rated by TripAdvisor’s members, from over 80 tours listed on the site, at the time of writing were: Living the Dream Divers, Fat Fish Adventures Stingray Sailing, Indigo Divers, Cayman Marine Lab, Seasports Diving, Dexter’s Fantasea Tours, Seven Seas Charters, Cayman Turtle Divers and Cayman Luxury Charters. Rankings can change according to ratings provided by the contributors to the popular website.

Cayman’s accolades of late have delighted the Department of Tourism. Don McDougall, the department’s regional manager, Europe, said Cayman was very happy.

“We are naturally delighted about these results, not least of all because Cayman is, relatively speaking, diminutive both in population and in size when compared to almost all the other destinations listed. Those who visit us know that we pack a punch that is considerably above our weight when it comes to delivering a quality and diverse tourism experience while remaining refreshingly unspoiled and undeveloped.

“What makes these awards a real privilege to receive is that the results are all based on real visitors’ experiences and opinions, so it counts tremendously to be ranked so highly against world-renowned destinations.”
