Architectural and planning firm OBM International has named K. Denaye Hinds as director of sustainability.
“OBMI has its roots in Bermuda and the Caribbean, and we are delighted to be able to appoint Denaye, a Bermudian, to drive our sustainability practice internationally,” said Colin Campbell, director of OBMI.
“OBMI’s island origins and the related cultural and environmental sensitivity have been key to our international growth,” he said.
Ms Hinds will lead and expand OBMI’s international design and planning sustainability practice. She will focus on building relationships and engaging the development community, as well as local governments, to promote sustainability objectives for OBMI’s clients and the places where their projects reside.
Ms Hinds will also implement company-wide education programmes, which include conducting and managing OBMI’s Green Globe Certified Projects. In early 2011, OBMI developed a partnership with Green Globe Certification to establish a global platform that brings sustainability standards through a certification program to the operation and management of resort destinations and communities.
In addition to implementing the Green Globe worldwide sustainability system, Ms Hinds will also actively engage in environmental philanthropy and community outreach for OBMI.
Prior to joining OBMI, Ms Hinds was an independent contractor specialising in sustainability consulting and auditing. She assisted South Florida and Caribbean entities in the process of certification under national and international environmental certifications through LEED project work, sustainability presentations and training, among other initiatives.
“Denaye’s experience and extensive knowledge of the sustainability process makes her an invaluable addition to our team and a strong attribute to advance environmentally-conscious practices in all stages of our firm’s projects,” said Mayra Guzman, interior designer for OBM Cayman. “We are thrilled that she has joined OBMI, and she is sure to be a tremendous asset to both our clients and organisation as a whole.”
Ms Hinds earned her master’s degree in construction management from Florida International University and bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She is a LEED accredited processional and Green Globe auditor.
