EE slammers earn crown

East End were far and away the dominant district in dominoes for 2011.

This weekend the area will earn its official kudos. The Cayman Islands Domino Association is slated to host an awards ceremony on Saturday 18 June at 4pm at Pirates Cove bar in East End.

The event will reward members of the 2011 national domino league. Many trophies are expected to go to the East End All Stars who ended up in first place at 14-0. East End player Fred McLaughlin is among those looking forward to the ceremony.

“In addition to the presentations we will be playing against the rest of the teams in pairs,” McLaughlin said. “We have had tremendous support from our East Enders. Our competitors, especially Island All Stars, have supported us also. The Island team used to be the dominant side for years and their only competition was against us.”

East End beat out seven other clubs for the top spot. Team Archies finished tied for second with Island All Stars. Fourth place would go to DLK (formerly Buttonwood) with Kelly’s out of West Bay ending fifth. Team Helium/Temperature placed sixth, Singh’s Roti Shop came seventh and Meringue Town finished eighth. The 2011 league started late last year and wrapped up at the end of last month.
