Francis offers foes no Plan B

Donald Francis has a unique Honda Civic Type-R.

The turbo-charged coupe is not only called Plan B. But it decimated cars with more weight and bigger engines at last weekend’s drag meet at Breakers Speedway. Put on by the Cayman Islands Drag Racing Association, the race saw the Civic run to first place in the low seven second class on the 1/8 mile track.

Francis would beat out second place Marlon ‘Christian’ Forde in a Mitsubishi Evolution III. Forde’s Evo would be one of several cars to taste defeat at the hands of the Civic.

Interestingly it would be a family affair for Francis. Brother Steven Francis claimed the low nine second class behind the wheel of a Honda Integra Type-R. Dillon Miller would run his Honda Civic into the second spot.

The Francis brothers would not be the only riders to make an impression. Humberto Rives proved his record-breaking run at the last association meet was no fluke. Rives would ride his Suzuki Hayabusa to the motorbike class win over second place Eduardo Swaby and top rider Dante ‘Ross’ Hydes. Rives would follow that up by winning the heads-up challenge against association president Sammy Jackson and his white Chevy Corvette. Jackson had a relatively quiet day as his main adversary, Billy Ebanks and his Dodge Daytona, did not compete.

However another noted racer stormed the track in Kenrick ‘Banks’ Baker. Sporting a new body-kit and white paint, his Evolution III would claim the six second class victory. In second place would be Ian ‘The Professor’ Tibbetts behind the wheel of his Chevy Corvette.

Some of the most impressive showings came from relative unknowns in the world of Cayman motorsports. Neil Johnson ran his Evo V to the high seven second category win. In second place would be Jordan Seales behind the wheel of a black Evo III.

Equestrian enthusiast Jane van der Bol would claim two top spots in her Porsche Cayenne S Sports Utility Vehicle. She would win the upper nine second class and place second in the 10 second class. It’s not the first time van der Bol has raced, having taken her Cayenne for a spin in local autocross. Softball star Yosvani Ebanks would take his burgundy Honda Prelude to the 10 second class win.
