Police seek help in 3 June robbery

Royal Cayman Islands Police investigating an armed robbery that occurred 3 June are appealing for a customer who was within the premises to come forward.

About 8.40pm Friday, 3 June, a man entered the Jose’s Esso Gas Station on Crewe Road, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun. He threatened the attendants and made off cash. Police said the suspect ran behind the building where he discharged a shot. No one was injured in the incident.

The gunman was described as being about 6’ 1” tall, dark complexion wearing black clothing, gloves and mask.

No arrests have been made.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Constable Karen McQuade, wants to speak with a man who was served by convenience store staff just before the robbery.

“This customer may have information which could be vital to the enquiry,” said Mr. McQuade. “He was still within the premises when the robbery took place, but left the scene before officers could make contact
with him.

“He is described as having a black complexion and being of large build. He had dreadlock hair and was wearing lilac-light blue shirt, three-quarter length denim shorts and work boots. He may also have facial hair. It isn’t known if he left the gas station on foot or in a vehicle.”

The witness, or anyone with information, is asked to call George Town Criminal Investigation Department on 949-4222 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number
800-8477 (TIPS).
