Carnival fun for all at Sixes

The Cayman Islands Cricket Association launches its Inaugural Corporate Sixes and Family Fun Day on Saturday at Smith Road Oval.

Games will commence at 8.30am and continue all day with the final being decided around 5.30pm. The event is to promote awareness of cricket in the Cayman Islands, as well as to see which team will earn the title of Cayman’s Best Corporate Sixes side and take home the silverware.

Organiser Simon Wetherell said: “On the day we will have great cricket entertainment as well as a bouncy castle for the children, a champagne tent for the ladies as well as a bar and jerk chicken stand.

“This is a major event on the fundraising calendar and all funds raised will be going to the development of cricket in the Cayman Islands. We are also looking for marketing partners for next year’s season. Our national team departs the following weekend for an ICC America’s Tournament in Florida.

“Special thanks to our sponsors 96.5 CayRock, Hot 104.1, Cayman Distributors, Red Stripe, Red Bull and LIME. Trophies have all been handcrafted by the Prison.”

Sixes cricket is a short and modified version of the game, even shorter than the extremely popular Twenty 20 Cricket. Sixes is designed to be a 45 minute game with a lot of big hitting and excitement – played with only six players. Teams entered so far are KPMG, LIME, Mourants, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Walkers.
