The 2026 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition wrapped up an exciting season after nearly two months of intense youth cricket action.

The league, which began on 24 April, concluded with three days of high-stakes playoff and exhibition matches that saw Island Primary A claim the girls’ championship and Cayman Prep A take home the boys’ title.

In the semi-final round, played on Tuesday, 16 June, at the Annex, the girls’ division saw Zone A winners First Baptist Christian School advancing automatically to the final after Zone B runner’s up Sir John A. Cumber Primary School were unable to field a team due to school commitments.

In the second girls’ semi-final, Zone A runner’s up Island Primary A defeated Zone B winners St. Ignatius Catholic School by a score of 40 runs to 38 runs.

On the boys’ side, both semi-final matchups were decided by a single run with Zone B runners-up St. Ignatius Catholic booking their ticket to the finals by defeating Zone A winners East End Primary 96 runs to 95 runs, while Zone B winners Cayman Prep A overcame Zone B runners up Prospect Primary 53 runs to 52 runs.

The teams moved to the Smith Road Oval on Wednesday, 17 June, for the finals and third-place consolation games.

In the girls’ championship match, Island Primary A put on a dominant performance to defeat First Baptist 92 runs to 59 runs, securing the 2026 title.

Sir John A. Cumber Primary overcame the disappointment of not featuring in the semi-finals by beating St. Ignatius Catholic 66 runs to 44 runs.

For the boys, Cayman Prep A captured the 2026 championship with a 73 runs to 50 runs victory over St. Ignatius Catholic. East End Primary secured the third-place spot by winning a close battle against Prospect Primary 84 runs to 81 runs.

To officially close out the season, the league hosted its inaugural Girls and Boys All Star Games on Thursday, 18 June, featuring the top primary school players.

The exhibition games provided plenty of entertainment, starting with the girls’ game where the Blue Iguana Warriors narrowly defeated the Silver Thatch Strikers 85 runs to 84 runs.

The boys’ game flipped the script, as the Silver Thatch Strikers beat the Blue Iguana Warriors 115 runs to 104 runs.

Following the All-Star matches, the Organising Committee and the Cayman Cricket Association presented a special award to Ronnie Roach, honouring his years of dedication to developing school cricket and building the sport’s foundation in the Cayman Islands.
