Youth cricket took centre stage as the Cayman National Under-16 Cricket Tournament officially began, marking the start of a month-long competition.
The opening match took place on Monday, 27 April, at the Smith Road Oval in George Town, where St. Ignatius Catholic School defeated Clever Fish School by 8 wickets.
Running through 27 May, the tournament features a diverse line-up of both boys and girls’ teams.
Participating schools include John Gray High School, Cayman Prep, Clifton Hunter High School, Clever Fish School, St. Ignatius Catholic, and Cayman Academy.
Matches will be held at the Smith Road Oval and at the John Gray High School, with remaining matches before the semi-finals, taking place on the 6, 7, 12 and 13 of May.

The youth competition is supported by Cayman National as part of its ongoing investment in local cricket development.
The partnership provides the necessary resources for the league, including uniforms, field branding, and trophies for the winning teams.
Cayman Cricket president Alessandro Morris said in a press release, “This investment will significantly strengthen our youth development programmes, helping us create more opportunities for young players and build a strong pipeline for the future of the sport.”
“It also allows us to enhance the experience at the Jimmy Powell Oval and support the progression of players from the grassroots level through to the national team as we compete regionally and internationally,” Morris added.
