Community sports is back again in the form of a football league.
The West Bay Sports Committee is putting on a community football league this summer. The league is being split up into an adult division and a youth segment targeting the Under-13, U15 and U17 age groups.
Matches started this week with the next games slated for this Sunday 24 July at the Ed Bush field. The adults are slated to play 6-9pm featuring five teams in Birch Tree Hill, Boatswain Bay, Mount Pleasant, North West Point and West Bay Central. All of the squads (in both the youth and adult categories) are co-ed with a minimum of two females on each roster.
Games for both segments continue at Ed Bush until the end of August. The youth teams are slated to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6-8pm. Interestingly a number of football personalities are involved with the competition including Roy ‘Huta’ Ebanks, Greg ‘Greggy’ Ebanks and Arden ‘Cheeky’ Rivers.
News of the football league comes after the district volleyball league wrapped up last month. Above the Net claimed their second straight adult title while Young Blazers were the youth division winners. From there two West Bay all-star squads earned a split with a pair of East End select teams (that district also organized a community volleyball competition).
