Island All Stars will host international competitors this year.
According to club member Derek Elliott Senior, the local side will put on a tournament 23-26 September at the Mango Tree in George Town. At that time Island All Stars will face players from three main locales in Florida, Canada and Jamaica.
“I would like it to be clear that the domino club and not the Cayman Islands Domino Association will host the tournament,” Elliott Senior said. “It will include players from Florida, Canada, Jamaica and Cayman.”
The last time Island All Stars staged a competition featuring foreign players was last March. Mango Tree served as venue as Jamaican club Rite Stuff Sports Club paid a visit. It would be a good trip for the visitors as they beat the All Stars team twice by 20 points.
News of the tournament comes after the recent elections for the 2011-2012 domino association executive board. Ray McLaughlin was voted back in as president with Treva McIntosh being named vice president. Oleta Elliott returned as secretary, with Sheena Taylor now being assistant secretary. Dareen Ebanks is back as treasurer while Vanessa Forrester is now the assistant treasurer. Kendal Connor is the fundraising committee chairman while Derrick Elliott Senior is the public relations chairman.
The 2011-2012 league is expected to start on 11 September. A number of prizes (including cash) are in the works for the new season. The 2010-2011 season saw eight teams take part with the East End All Stars coming out victorious with an unbeaten record.
