Hit-and-run suspect surrenders

A man suspected in a hit-and-run accident turned himself in to police on Thursday, officers said.

The 27-year-old suspect, who has not been charged, surrendered at George Town Police Station.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said at about 10.40pm Wednesday, a motorcycle was travelling along West Bay Road towards George Town when it was struck by a black motorcar which police said was turning right from West Bay Road into the parking area at Jet Nightclub.

The driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. Both were hurt – the rider suffered injuries to his arm and the bike passenger to his shoulder.

Both men were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town for treatment. The passenger was released Thursday morning, but the rider remained in the hospital.

The driver of the black car, which has been described to police as being a Nissan Skyliner, drove off from the scene before police arrival.

Any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who knows of a black vehicle which has new accident damage is asked to contact their nearest police station, the Traffic Management Unit on 946-6254 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477 (TIPS).
