Third robbery in 48 hours

A fashion store on Shedden Road, George Town was robbed by armed men Monday in the third robbery to occur on Grand Cayman since Saturday night.

Royal Cayman Islands Police said at about 7:15pm Monday a woman was working in Awescay Fashions on Shedden Road which is located next door to Funky Tangs.

The woman told police she saw two men drive up to the store in a grey-coloured Honda Civic. The men, who carried what appeared to be firearms, entered the store, threatened the woman and then made off with some cash, police said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.

The suspects reportedly drove off in the direction of Martin Drive. It is believed that they then turned on Tigris Street and re-entered Shedden Road.

Both suspects were described as having slim builds and were both between 5’8″ to 5’10”. Both were brown skinned, were wearing gloves and had black t-shirts wrapped around their faces.

Robberies kept the RCIPS busy over the weekend as one man was reportedly robbed in the middle of a George Town street around midday Sunday.

Late Saturday night, police said a woman was pistol-whipped near her Bodden Town home after returning from her George Town business.

Police were also investigating a shooting and a stabbing incident that occurred in separate locations early Saturday, but neither incident was believed to be a robbery.

  1. More crimes, and still NO response from the government! When will the Premier or an MLA or the Governor step forward to talk about crime? When will the government do ANYTHING about this problem????

  2. I cannot comprehend the apathy/ineffectiveness of the Island Police; yet MORE crime.
If the current force cannot handle the problem (seems that they cannot) it is high time they sought expert assistance ……..
