Little League baseball is charging around the bases this month.
The fall season for the Cayman Islands Little League is expected to start in roughly two weeks. Matches are expected to be held at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town. The league incorporates youngsters aged 5-18 across various divisions and is free of charge.
Little League President Paul Gallagher states that the registration session for the competition is this weekend.
“On Saturday, 10 September, we’ll round up kids and coaches to shake the rust off and begin our inaugural Fall Ball League with an informal toss,” Gallagher said. “At this point, we will make sure we have everyone’s information correct and kids can show the volunteer coaches their skills and we can recruit parents to help out.
“We’re expecting practices and games to start Monday, 19 September. The season would run to late November with the regular spring season picking back up in 2012.”
The 2011 spring season wrapped up in June via an all-star day. The big news over the summer was the presence of a Cayman travel team at the Little League World Series regional qualifiers in St. Thomas. Gallagher states those efforts are to be commended.
”Some 13 of our kids travelled to St. Thomas and won their first tournament game this summer. It was a great experience for the kids and something we hope to build on.”
