Bullets fly into GT house

Royal Cayman Islands Police Service officers are investigating a late night shooting in George Town where a house was damaged.

No one was injured, but residents said a man, woman and their two children live in the home on McField Lane.

At about 10.50pm Wednesday, the occupants of the house heard what they believed to be two gunshots. They then found holes in a window of their house and contacted police.

Police officers responded immediately and on examination of the scene confirmed recovering bullet fragments from inside the home.

Residents in the area reported hearing two shots around 11pm Wednesday.

“We could have got a stray bullet in our bed,” said one woman who didn’t wish to be identified. “It’s not good, somebody should do something about this crime rate here.”

Another man said he also heard the shots, but didn’t want to investigate further.

“I tend not to go outside when I hear gunshots,” he said.

Police had the entire parking lot of a small strip centre located next to the house that was struck by bullets roped off with crime scene tape, but it was unclear why. It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.

RCIPS officers remained at the location throughout the night and continued a scene search Thursday morning.

Police are stepping up patrols to provide high visibility policing in that area.

Officers ask that any witnesses who may have been in the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.
