Beginning this month, students are invited to participate in the National Gallery Walker’s Kids Art Club, for students ages 9 to 12.
The deadline to register is Friday, 9 September.
Sponsored by the Walker’s Children and the Arts Programme, the activities teach many skills organisers say are applicable not only to the arts, but to life.
Students from all schools are invited to join and make friends with children from all walks of life, outside the group of schoolmates and friends they interact with daily.
The National Gallery says through the programme, children learn responsibility and confidence, enough to teach other students techniques and skills learned during projects and activities at the club.
The National Gallery’s goal is to boost children’s cognitive, social, personal, and physical development through this programme.
Important connections
Each group project connects the children, organisers say, and they are encouraged to appreciate the individuality of others while learning the value of their own uniqueness.
Students also get the opportunity to display their artwork during the annual Art@Governors event, where the public has access to the artwork and can speak with the emerging young artists.
