Second weapon found

At about 2.30pm on Friday, police officers responding to calls from the public found a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm at a central George Town address. When police arrived, the male suspect discarded the firearm and fled the scene, officers said.

A semi-automatic pistol along with ammunition was recovered from the scene and police are seeking a 26-year-old male in connection with the firearm.

“This is the second unlicensed firearm the RCIPS has recovered in the last two days,” said police superintendent Kurt Walton.

The previous day, around 11.30am, the RCIPS helicopter and K-9 patrols, along with the Uniform Support Group and Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force mounted a targeted operation on a house in the Marina Drive area of Prospect, police said. During that operation a loaded .45-calibre semi-automatic pistol was recovered along with a ski mask, gloves and camouflage clothing, police said. The man and woman were arrested at the home on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

  1. Let’s see, many of the armed robberies have been carried out with people brandishing firearms and wearing masks and gloves …. the RCIPS has now recovered a firearm, ski mask and gloves from a house in Prospect … any second now, someone is going to put two and two together.

Criminals, you have done enough damage to the island’s reputation. Your time is coming … get ready to serve it.

  3. I will give some credit to the Police but who did the work? It was the public and the Police could not even catch the crook. I guess either the Police are slow or perhaps it was Carl Lewis younger brother on the run. Perhaps we should send that guy to the Olympics to represent us.
One less gun on the streets is good and we should be thankful but step up the Police work to catch these guys and if some criminals get hurt or put 6 feet under during the process that is acceptable to me and perhaps many others too. Don’t treat these criminals with any respect..they give the public none.
