Churches, and the Government’s money

It took me some time to think about this money giveaway the Cayman Islands Government recently gave to select churches. And although I would not get mixed up in the affairs of any church, this one thing that went on between the current government and the churches, where millions of dollars that is needed in this time of need by the whole public, should not have been given to any church.

After all, we have heard of the money wasted by the past government and with all the projects still on line to be finished, including our boat ramp in Bodden Town, this money is another bad idea and wrongful spending by the present government. As always when it comes to getting something done for the people of Bodden Town that would improve our town we are left out.

We do not need another shelter – we have two already and four playgrounds. The money that this present government is wasting is needed in Bodden Town. Our three elected members had better get off their butts and help the people of Bodden Town.

Look at what has been done for our town since 1980, very little compared to many of the other areas of Grand Cayman. The first capital has already been left out. Do not give our money to churches that fight against each other in the name of Jesus and have their own money while many of them do not assist the public with anything except to take money out of their pockets on their days of worship.

We must not as any government give money directly to the churches. We need many things in this country, like trade schools, boat ramp, cruise ship dock; schools completed, elderly people’s needs, homeless people’s houses and much more so why give or spend our well needed money foolishly. The talk about PPM wasting well what do you call what this present UDP government is doing, give away wasters; as we hear the only thing they want for my Bodden Town is to turn it into a dump. Well just like the cruise ship port in Half Moon Bay.

The present Government had better rethink that one for Bodden Town is no place for any dump. Oh no, not in Bodden Town; and all of the Bodden Towners that would like to have a dump in the first capital should leave and go to West Bay, for that is the most perfect place to put the dump after the present leader of this country wants to have as much as he can put in West Bay put there. The dump would fit in well there; that way when the smell that is generated by the dump is blown by the wind it will not blow over two-thirds of the island it can blow out to sea and off the island quickly.

The same applies to the dump catching fire the smoke will do the same. This present leader has even stopped using his common sense; remember most of the time the trade winds blow from East End over the island to West Bay. So we have a lot of things being done by this present government that is not wise with the people’s money.

As I think about the churches and the great money gift I was made to wonder why it was done; perhaps if we look at its another way, if you give the churches millions of dollars from the people’s savings with government, what stops the giver and the receivers going on with some kind of scam. Give the churches millions and the churches give back to the givers privately in the way of off shore deposits in secret bank accounts, or in the way of companies after all what they do are not questioned. I do have my rights to look at all the angles, a way I feel that it was also wrong for the churches to accept the money the people of this island that pay all this money in taxes should have been the ones to decide how these millions have been spent.

Stop wasting money needed to build things needed by the public like a proper boat ramp in my town Bodden Town, and to all the churches try and join the government and put a stop to crime because the police need all the help they can get. Do something good with all that money you was given besides build your churches bigger. God does not need money only sinners to repent.

  1. I live near West Bay.
But I must agree that the direction of the prevailing winds makes it more sensible to put the dump on the West side of the island. In that location the winds can carry any smells out to sea quickly.
