If you had 24 hours to live what would you do? This is a question I am sure that we have heard many times before. I often wonder how does one live each day like as if it were your last. One thing I know for sure is that if you had 24 hours to live it would force you to think about priorities and quit doing the things that waste your time and energy and concentrate on the most important things and people in your life.
First off we would be grabbing every opportunity to get things in order. We would not be procrastinating or putting anything off because it needs to be done today! Not having the luxury of putting things off makes us grasp each moment in its unique state and seize the day or opportunity. This line of thinking inspires me to question why then are we living so recklessly if we know not the hour or the day that we will leave this earth? Living life to the fullest does not mean to not take any thought or care of what happens tomorrow; it seems to mean that if we had one day to get everything in order we would put a lot more thought and care into whatever we were doing to ensure that the ones that we leave behind are well cared for and prepared for. If we resolved to live that way we would make better choices for everything. We would make conscious choices, sober choices and thoughtful choices. And we would treasure every moment that we are blessed with. We would remove clutter and garbage from our lives because the threshold for foolishness or tolerance of mess is no longer a luxury.
Living each day like it’s your last is not about doom and gloom or fear but rather it is about caring what you do with the time that you have and what legacy you leave behind. It is about concern for your loved ones and the people that mattered in your life. It is less about being selfish and more about being selfless. It is living your life to the fullest in the purest sense of the word. So ask yourself; are you living each day as if it were your last? I think that we need to not let another moment pass us by and start to reach out for our dreams and desires today.
