EE face Archies

Local dominoes starts its national competition next weekend.

The Cayman Islands Domino Association begins play in the 2011-2012 national domino league on Sunday, 23 October. Pirates Cove in East End will be the venue for the season opener featuring reigning champions East End Mystical Youths and Archie’s bar.

East End are coming off a dominant showing last year, going undefeated under the leadership of team manager Billy McLaughlin. Archie’s meanwhile managed an impressive tie for second place behind team captain Donovan ‘Dave’ Hart and players like Tanron ‘Barber’ McCalla.

The deadline for team registration was Thursday, 13th October. In all eight teams competed last year with Island All Stars, DLK (formerly Buttonwood), Kelly’s, Team Helium/Temperature, Singh’s Roti Shop and Meringue Town joining East End and Archies. Matches were played in bars located in George Town, West Bay and East End.

It is anticipated that weekly match schedules for this season will be posted in the Caymanian Compass newspaper.

Island All Stars president and domino association member Derek Elliott Senior expressed his gratitude to the teams taking part this year.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the teams who have already registered with the association,” Elliott Senior said. “We look forward to having an exciting and challenging tournament this season.”
