Comets start out perfect

In local girls basketball the team to beat is the Comets.

The squad is keeping it together in the 2011 Appleby Under-19 basketball League. The side is currently unbeaten through its first three games under the direction of head coach Kadane Hall.

A big reason why the Comets are blazing a trail is due to a star cast of Chloe Powery, Shana Linwood-McLaughin, Felecia Connor, Ashley Ebanks and Annique Holness. With a league-best 172 points scored, the Comets have a legitimate shot at the championship and dethroning the defending champions Sparks and their leader, reigning Most Valuable Player La-Torae Nixon.

In their last victory on 8 October, the Comets edged by the Monarchs 52-50. Chloe Powery led with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while teammate Ashley Ebanks added 14 points, 11 rebounds.

Next up for the Comets is a showdown with the Sparks at 5pm on Saturday, 15 October, at the Cayman Islands Basketball Association court off Eastern Avenue.
