Wolves hunt pack

The Wolves are the team to beat in youth basketball in the Cayman Islands.

Heading into week five of the 10-week season, Wolves are unbeaten atop the boys division of the Appleby Under-19 Basketball League. The squad is 3-0 and has scored the most points (242) while giving up the fewest baskets (124).

Leading the way is top scorer Peter Grant, who averages a league-best 33 points per game. A stalwart of youth basketball, Grant is in his third season in the U19 competition. With many of the stars from last year’s championship team gone, Grant has stepped up to lead the charge, starting out with a triple-double in the season-opener (51 points, 11 rebounds and 12 steals).

Grant has help from team-mates David Powery (fifth in scoring with 13.0ppg) and Brandon Thompson (eighth in scoring with 11.5ppg). All will be tested on Tuesday, 25 October when the Wolves face Wesleyan Christian Academy at 7.30pm on the Cayman Islands Basketball Association court. A young team, Wesleyan has had their struggles with a 1-2 mark in fourth place.

Tuesday also sees another interesting match-up as team Bodden Town tangle with John Gray High School at 6pm. John Gray are winless at 0-3 while BT are in second place at 2-1.
