A mid-afternoon car crash in central George Town ended with a new police squad car getting banged up and the driver of the other vehicle being arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Police said the crash happened just after 2pm Tuesday when a Royal Cayman Islands Police Service patrol car, a Dodge Charger, collided with a Nissan van at the junction of Bobby Thompson Way and Smith Road.
Both vehicles sustained major damage, but the drivers were not seriously hurt. Both declined treatment at the crash scene, police said.
Breathalyzer tests were given to both drivers. Police said the Dodge Charger’s driver tests negative, but the other driver tested postive and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Anyone with information on the wreck is asked to call the RCIPS Traffic Department at 946-6254.
