Scary serves and ghoulish aces

The tennis kids at the Ritz-Carlton looked pretty scary on Monday and the coaches dressed accordingly. No surprising, because it was Halloween.

Coach Thomas Neuert said: “We had a good turn out of about 25 kids who all dressed up. We had a competition for the best dressed and gave away prizes at the end.

“Our junior programme is fantastic. We currently have 125 kids and are pretty much fully committed to all the classes and even have a waiting list with some classes. So in the future we hope that Michael Ryan (the Ritz-Carlton developer) will be putting on more courts!

“This year I think the Legends tournament, which runs in two weeks’ time, is going to be even better than before because the community is going to be involved. The pros are going to play, as well as the local amateurs, plus we’re going to have the likes of Philippoussis, Capriati and Hingis. I’m going to play as well so I’m very excited. I think it’s going to be very nice. Plus we’re going to have the ex-British premier Tony Blair here leading off the event at Blue which will be fantastic. I’m happy to say that we have tickets for prizes starting from $5. We’re already pretty sold out.”
