Bodden Town feel grand

Bodden Town Football Club is best known for its Premier League and strong youth boys teams and last season it added an Under-17 girls team for the first time ever. Their programme was supported by a $1,000 donation from Jerry Jewell of Cayman Interior Finishes.

Girls team coach Lanie McLaughlin said: “We have always focused on the boys and never on the girls and it was time to start. The girls are a great group. Some have played football before, others have never touched a ball. They lost all their games last season but they have improved a lot.

“This is the start of a programme that can have girls come out in the eastern districts to play ball, keep them doing something positive, have fun and also be a feeding channel for the girls national team.

“Two of our players were invited out to the national U17 Team already and with continued work I hope to have more players being called out to represent their country with pride and honour.”

Kennedy Kelly, Bodden Town vice-president, said: “We really appreciate the $1,000 donation from Jerry Jewell. He has supported us for years and his continued involvement with Bodden Town is invaluable.

“In these tough economic times when a lot of small businesses are struggling and even going under because of the money situation, it’s heart-warming of Jerry to still be making a contribution and we can’t thank him enough.”
