Anyone passing through George Town on Monday evening, 14 November, can expect to see the clock tower and water fountain in Heroes Square bathed in a blue light.
The special lighting will be erected to mark World Diabetes Day, the logo of which is a blue circle.
Sylvia Perry, president of the Cayman Islands Diabetes Association, said the lights would be erected after the Remembrance Day ceremonies in George Town.
Also on Monday, the Cayman Islands Diabetes Association is hosting a wellness day at Camana Bay, so that members of the public can get tested for free and learn more about diabetes, which is one of the most prevalent diseases in Cayman.
Ms Perry said point-of-care Haemoglobin A1c tests would be carried out and the results would be available right away.
“In addition, we will have various speakers who will talk on a diabetes-related subject and, of course, we will have educational literature,” she said.
Speakers at the event will include dietician Kristen Lomas, certified diabetes educator and registered nurse Andrea Hunt, chairman of the Pharmacists Association Courtney Morrison, Dr. Komal Lawrence from the Chrissie Tomlinson Hospital and kidney specialist Dr. Fritz Hendricks.
The wellness day will be held at Heliconia at Camana Bay and begins at 10am on Monday, 14 November.
To raise funds for the Association this month, a 5k fun will be held on Saturday, 26 November, with runners leaving from Camana Bay at 6.30am. Registration is $15, with a free t-shirt.
That race also marks the start of A Crazy Idea, a 100-mile run around the island by ultra runners James Murray, Lisa Smith-Batchen and Gerry Martinez.
