UCCI students and any other interested members of the community are invited to participate in drama sessions being run by Dr. Monika Lawrence, lecturer in Dance and Cultural Studies of UCCI, with Artist in Residence Quincy Brown as tutor.
Two sessions took place last week, and two more are scheduled for today, Friday, 11 November, and tomorrow between noon and 2pm.
Drama is a subject not usually offered at UCCI and the reason behind these sessions, says Ms Lawrence, is to prepare students for a Christmas production, The Christmas Cake Story, on 17 December. The drama workshop and lessons however are not limited to UCCI students.
“We have opened up the workshops to the community and all students as the benefit of this is far reaching in assisting in their own presentation of self, helping them to express themselves with more confidence and allowing them the opportunity to think creatively,” she says.
Students joining the sessions will practice dramatic exercises, role play, stage projection, breathing exercises, trust techniques, facial expression, body language and characterisation.
Talented actor, singer and story teller Mr. Brown will be tutoring at the sessions. He will also be acting in the Christmas musical production and is assisting Ms Lawrence in scripting the play.
The drama sessions are open to all and free of charge. Further sessions could be arranged, depending on demand.
