Comfort Suites Seven Mile Beach is investing more than US$2 million in renovations to its rooms and facilities.
The first phase involves updating 22 business rooms, improving the breakfast room, and adding a gym and private business centre. The second phase entails the complete remodelling of all of the property’s remaining rooms.
The first phase began in August and ends in early December, and the second phase will take place after the winter tourism season, according to a news release.
“This is a very extensive renovation which speaks to our owners’ commitment to both the hotel and the Cayman Islands,” General Manager Thomas Mason said.
Built in 2004, the hotel has 119 guest rooms. The ownership group comprises Caymanians and Americans, and more than 85 per cent of the local workforce is Caymanian.
According to the news release, many of the hotel staffers have been given different duties related to renovation work, rather than their ordinary job descriptions, in order prevent layoffs during the slower summer season while renovations were ongoing.
In related news, Comfort Suites’ neighbour, the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort, is also upgrading its facilities. In late September, the hotel received approval from the Central Planning Authority for a 375-square-foot addition to the existing hotel kitchen.
The cost of the kitchen addition is pegged at CI$100,000.
