Youngster awarded music scholarship

A 14-year-old music student from the Cayman Music School has received a full scholarship to attend Idyllwild Arts Academy in California for his outstanding talent in drum performance, after his videos were viewed on the Internet site YouTube by faculty at the school.

Max Kazakova will be attending the boarding school, which is for students in grades 9-12, who excel in music, dance, creative writing, theatre, motion picture and visual arts production.

The youngster’s invitation to join the academy read, “We want Max here now!! He is fantastic; he would be a great fit for our school and our jazz programme.”

Some graduates of Idyllwild have moved on to develop their talents at some of the best and most competitive colleges, universities and conservatories in the world, such as Julliard, Stanford, Yale, Eastman, San Francisco Conservatory and Boston Conservatory.

Max started to study music at the age of 10 and passed Grade 8 Trinity International Music Exams with distinction at 13. His parents, both of whom are professional musicians, advised him to apply to several schools for further study, which led the youngster to identify Idyllwild Arts Academy.

“He absolutely loved the location – 5,300 feet up in the mountains of the San Bernadino Forest, just 2 hours from Los Angeles,” Mrs. Kazakova said.
