Athletic are bouncing back

The top of the table clash between league leaders Elite and Scholars International was a goalless affair but at least the crowd at the TE McField Annex got plenty of cut and thrust action on Sunday. Scholars striker Dominic Pearson could have covered himself in glory at the end but missed a golden chance. Overall, a draw seemed a fitting result.

Cayman Athletic have bounced back after the 10-1 trouncing they got against Elite last month. Coach Gillie Seymour’s side beat Roma United 2-0 with goals by Matthew Suberan and David Bodden either side of the break. Maybe they were inspired by the delicious cakes served up by Paulette Conolly-Bailey who raised $200 for Cayman Athletic funds by selling them at the ground.

In the early match at the Bodden Town playing field, Tigers got an invaluable 2-1 win over Future with early goals by Miguel Simms and Manalo Connolly. Paul Brown pulled one back for Future in injury time but it was too late to make any difference.

In the later match Bodden Town also won 2-1 thanks to occasional skipper Yefry Calderon’s two late goals which cancelled out Justin Pierre’s strike in the seventh minute.
