Youth leadership training

Members of the government as well as young people from a cross section of institutions and members of the media gathered at the Marriott Beach Resort on 2 December for the Youth Leadership Workshop.

The workshop series is a partnership between the Youth Services Unit and the National Youth Commission of the Cayman Islands. The purpose of the initiative is to benefit National Youth Policy stakeholders.

Planned for the Prefect body and other students involved in student leadership roles, including in-school club leaders, team captains and other student group leaders.

During the session, presentations were made by Young Cayman Leadership Award Alumni and recipients, as well as Community Development Officer Wendy Quinland, Pastor Mitch Exctain of the Ambassadors of Christ Church and Marriott Beach Resort Human Resource Manager Fernando Soler.

The keynote speaker for the event was Cayman National Bank CEO Ormond Williams.

Presentations included a range of topics such as “Taking the Lead and Every Day Leadership”, “Leadership Styles”, “Visioning and Ethics and Core Values”.

The stated vision and theme of the training by the Youth Services Unit, provided free of cost, was, “To see all young men and women attain their full potential to ensure a bright and sustainable future for the Cayman Islands,” as well as, “To ensure that young people are the recipients of dynamic youth development programming in each district.”
