Roma prepares for three-peat

The national women’s netball league will get going in a few days.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association open league will start next Saturday, 14 January. The netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex will host matches at 6.30pm. Among the sides in focus will be Roma, who are the defending two-time champions behind players like Dazema Ricketts.

Originally the games were slated to take place this weekend. However netball association secretary Norma Ferryman states the date change is to facilitate the implementation of new rules.

“The netball association decided to cancel games for 7 January,” Ferryman said. “We want to share information received from the International Federation of Netball Associations on changes in the rules of netball games. The Cayman netball association is inviting members of the bench, teams/clubs, umpires and coaches to a meeting to discuss that.

“The meeting will be held on Wednesday, 11 January. The staff room of Cimboco High School at the Clifton Hunter High School Campus will be the venue at 5:30pm.”

Each club is strongly urged by the association to have a representative there. All umpires and the bench must make every effort to attend as the rule changes will affect the playing of netball games. A schedule for the league was slated to be released this Tuesday and all teams should be prepared to play.
