Keep up your good intentions for the New Year by participating in the first 5K run/walk of 2012. Get a good workout and support local charities at the same time.
Now in its third year the Milestone Charity Walk/Run takes place at Camana Bay on Saturday, 7 January.
This year, Cayman National has chosen the Cayman Islands Diabetes Charitable Trust and the Sunrise Adult Training Centre as the beneficiaries of this year’s run/walk. The first event in 2009 was planned as a one off, to mark the 35th anniversary of the bank, explains Corporate Communications Executive Claudia Welds. However, because Cayman National celebrates its anniversary in January each year and due to their ongoing involvement in community projects it was decided to make the sporting event an annual one.
Last year saw close to 300 individuals participating in the event, and registrations this year look promising. Hopefully, being close to the start of the year, when people are filled with good intentions for the year ahead, will mean a good turnout once again this year, says Ms Welds.
The event begins at 6.30am on Saturday with the course starting in front of Cayman National Bank in Camana Bay and making its way toward the ARC and back.
Participants will complete the loop twice. “Camana Bay is a great, safe location for the walk/run, which means it can be a true family event,” added Ms Welds.
Registration is $20 and participants receive a goodie bag with T shirt and will be entered in a random prize draw at the end. Those wishing to support two worthwhile causes can register online at www.caymanactive.com or in person at Cayman National Bank on Elgin Avenue. It will also be possible to register on the day.
