George Town pharmacy robbed at gunpoint

Authorities are searching for two armed and masked men who stole a cash register and sum of money Monday night from the Valu-Med Pharmacy on Walkers Road in George Town.

At about 8.30pm, the two suspects entered the premises, according to a news release issued by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. One of the suspects ran to the back of the store where he threatened the cashier with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded cash.

The second suspect threatened another cashier and demanded she open the cash register at the front of the store.

Authorities said when she did not do so the suspect ripped the register from the counter. Both suspects then ran from the store with the register and a sum of cash. As they made off from the scene on foot, the robbers dropped some of the money in the Leafy Lane area.

No shots were fired and no one was injured, according to the police news release.

  1. This armed robbery certainly begs the question, when is business going to be security conscious and try to be a step ahead of these thugs. It is 8:30pm, these two masked armed thugs walk in get cash and register, walk out and sped off with their loot. As easy as that and the crooks are fully aware. Common sense dictates that this is all too easy to accomplish. If nothing is done to thwart future robberies, the same two or others will return at a later date. Thank God no one was hurt.

  2. So what your saying is. Because of these scum bags. The store is going to have to pay someone to stand around, for the entire shift hours. Doing nothing.

All because there are people out there, who think stealing is okay.

Don’t complain then, when the price of everything in stores goes up, to compensate for all of this security.

  3. ‘Dodge City’ gun-law mentality continues.

And frankly what is the use of having uniformed security guards, with no protection, paid a pittance and expecting them to defend their ‘assignment’? Would you do it?

    The world is watching, Cayman.
