Mourant in for $5,000

Law firm Mourant Ozannes has renewed its sponsorship of the Cayman Islands Cricket Association with the aim of bolstering the number of young people playing the sport locally.

Having sponsored cricket for several years, the renewed sponsorship deal, which is worth about $5,000 annually, will help revitalise local youth cricket through a range of initiatives.

The new sponsorship will help deliver coaching programmes for the secondary school competitions where annually the cricket association sees about 15 teens play in the teams from Cayman’s eight schools. The funds also go toward annual summer camps, which last summer helped the training and travel for the Under-15 national team who represented Cayman in the Bahamas.

Ian ‘Beefy’ Goodall, Treasurer of the Cayman Islands Cricket Association, said: “We are delighted that Mourant Ozannes has agreed to maintain its commitment to our youth programme, which we simply couldn’t deliver without their support. We have a number of exciting initiatives lined up for 2012 which are all aimed at attracting more young people to play cricket.”

Hector Robinson, Partner at Mourant Ozannes, said: “Mourant Ozannes has a long standing relationship with the Cayman Islands Cricket Association and has supported local youth cricket for a number of years. We are delighted to continue the support.”
