Harry’s FC extended their lead at the top of the Heineken Sunday Football League after Match Day 12 last weekend.
The match-of-the-day was between top of the table Harry’s and second place Triple Crown Wanderers and in a surprising score line it was Harry’s who raced away with a comfortable 4-0 victory and six points clear.
The swirling wind at the TE McField Annex made for difficult conditions. A pin-point Mark Ingle cross found league top scorer Floyd ‘Irons’ McKenzie unmarked to volley home. Wanderers then paid the consequences for pushing up too far when Ingle sped onto a through ball to score. Wanderers pushed even more players forward to try and salvage something and McKenzie scored twice more to complete his hat-trick.
Boca Juniors were also dropping points in their pursuit of Harry’s after being held to a 1-1 draw against a resurgent Prison side. With the advantage of a strong wind at their backs Boca took the lead when Henry Mitchell lashed his shot high into the net. Mid-way through the second half Kenroy Wills equalised for Prison when his long range, wind assisted shot sailed over the keeper. In a fiercely contested match the last piece of action was the coach of Prison being shown a red card and banished from the touchline after he was too vocal in his displeasure at a refereeing decision.
Fourth place Agua FC defeated Old Boys 2-0 thanks to a goal in each half. The Old Boys were unlucky to be a goal down at half-time following a trademark Stephan Kormos free-kick on 27 minutes. Up until then Old Boys had created several clear cut chances but lacked the cutting edge to finish off the moves. After the break, and with the wind now blowing at their backs, Agua stretched their lead further De Riso waltz through the Old Boys defence for his second.
It’s been a long time in coming, but after four draws, CML collected their first win of the season with a comprehensive 4-1 result against a lacklustre MC Devils side. CML have Raphael Harvey to thank for this victory after he contributed a hat-trick. CML broke the deadlock with Chris Turrell converting a penalty. Harvey got his first of the game to give CML a 2-0 half-time lead when a quick free-kick allowed him in a clear run in at goal. Harvey completed his hat-trick in the second half when he capitalised on two defensive errors. Devils did manage to create a consolation goal deep into injury time. CML’s win propelled them off the foot of the table as they leapfrog over the Devils.
Next week the league takes a partial break with only two re-arranged fixtures going ahead at the TE McField Annex when Agua FC face Prison and MC Devils host Boca Juniors.
