The Premier League season took a dramatic turn as Scholars International lost for the first time on Sunday to Tigers who are a mid-table team.
Miguel Simms was the Tigers hero, scoring in the 44th minute at the TE McField Annex. Scholars International came out after the break intent on keeping their unbeaten record intact but just could not find a way past the well-organised Tigers defence who at times argued heatedly amongst themselves but still battled admirably.
Tigers only had a couple of chances and scored from one yet Scholars had at least 20 but just could not finish.
Roy Forbes hit the post after a brilliant move on the right near the end, but that was about as close as it got for Scholars International. At least Scholars were relieved to hear that table toppers Elite could only manage a 0-0 draw at the Ed Bush stadium against lowly Cayman Athletic which means that Elite are only two points ahead of their West Bay rivals. Elite are easily the league’s top scorers but they just did not find the formula this time.
Bodden Town beat bottom club Future 2-1 at Ed Bush thanks to goals but Theron Wood (48th minute) and Yefry Calderon (89). Denver Barnes had put Future ahead in the 21st minute.
In the late match at the TE McField Annex, Fabian Malcolm’s 79th minute penalty for George Town sealed the points against Roma United. One of the George Town subs was Davian ‘YD’ Smith who came on late. He had earlier been performing at the East End Surf Challenge, rapping on stage in a totally different persona. At least YD had plenty to sing about after this match.
This weekend’s matches are between Cayman Athletic and Tigers and Roma against Bodden Town at the Bodden Town playing field on Sunday. The matches at the TE McField Annex are between Elite and George Town at 5pm and Scholars International and Future at 7pm.
