Careers Expo at UCCI

The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2012 Careers, Education, Training & Jobs Expo today at the University College of the Cayman Islands.

Now in its 14th year, the free annual event runs from 10am to 7pm and will have exhibits from some 25 businesses, higher learning institutions and other organisations available for participants wanting to learn more about a career or industry. Exhibitors will provide information on their available scholarships, training and employment opportunities. “The Chamber is pleased to see that so many of our members really see the benefit of investing this time in Cayman’s student population. Almost everyone of these sponsors/exhibitors offers a scholarship or training opportunity for young people in our community,” Chamber CEO Wil Pineau said. “Although originally geared toward students, we are happy to say that many other sectors of the community including those looking for employment, advice or a career change are well-represented.”

Free workshops are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. Register online at the Chamber’s website, www.caymanchamber.ky.

“For the DER, this is a great opportunity to show Cayman how important this partnership with the Chamber and private sector is and how important it is for us to work together in the field of career-building and employment for our citizens,” said the department’s Acting Director Jennifer Smith. “I cannot remember a time when we were not a part of the Chamber’s Career Expo and this year we will once again showcase what the Job Placement Unit of the DER has to offer.”

This year’s exhibitors include SteppingStones Recruitment, Cayman Finance, Appleby, Butterfield Bank, Personnel 2000, Department of Employment Relations, Caribbean Canvas Company, Health Services Authority, CML Offshore Recruitment, Dart Cayman Islands, Department of Environmental Health, Digicel, Insurance Managers Association of Cayman, International College of the Cayman Islands, Island Companies, KPMG, Maples & Calder, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Cayman Crime Stoppers, The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, The University of the West Indies, UCCI and Walkers.

“We see the Careers Expo as an excellent opportunity to assist a wide cross section of the community from school leavers, to the unemployed, to people looking for a career or job change to people hoping to be promoted within their current place of employment. At the Expo, our experienced and talented recruiters will be there to offer one-on-one advice to participants,” said SteppingStones Managing Partner Milly Serpell.
