New mural is pukka at Tukka

A new mural depicting the journey of chef Ron Hargrave is the newest piece of interest at Aussie restaurant Tukka.

“The Tukka Dreamtime mural is a combination of myself and Hannah Cook, a local artist. We started it a year ago and it depicts my life in Australia and my life in Cayman in one, 30 foot mural,” Mr. Hargrave said.

“There’s the aboriginal people in Dreamtime, where everything is spiritual and everything comes from the land,” he said. “There’s aboriginal art on there plus the opera house, Ayers Rock, crocodiles, kookaburras, all the animals.

“On the Cayman side there’s the Cayman parrot, the island, turtles and a beautiful big marlin which people have asked is Guy Harvey but isn’t – it’s Hannah’s trademark.”

Iconic lizards

Two lizards divide the mural; the Blue Iguana and the Frill Neck Lizard, which are iconic in their respective countries.

The chef said he always wanted to have a piece of art in his restaurant which represented his life.

“So it’s 27 years in Australia and the rest in Cayman in one mural,” he said. “It was officially launched at Taste of Cayman so people could see it then we mounted it in the feature room at Tukka. We can have 10 to 24 people in that Dreamtime room so it’s pretty cool.”
