Harry’s coast to high five

Unlike the English Premier League, there were no controversies in the pre-match handshakes in the Heineken Sunday League in Match Day 15 last weekend which witnessed Harry’s FC continuing their winning streak, against the CML Claymores.

Paul Valenti of CML scored a scorcher of a goal that might have been a contender for goal of the season had it not been past his own keeper. Valenti’s inadvertent strike gave his keeper little chance as his attempted clearance curled passed his out stretched arms because of the strong wind.

Harry’s converted a penalty shortly afterwards thanks to Floyd ‘Irons’ McKenzie to make it 2-0. McKenzie then scored two further goals in the space of five minutes for another hat-trick to put his side 4-0 up. His strike partner, Dwayne Wilson completed the 5-0 rout.

This result leaves CML rooted to the foot of the table for another week but they will seek solace from cup action in the CML Cup, their sponsor’s name. Unfortunately for them it’s a return leg against Harry’s.

It took a last minute penalty conversion from Boca Juniors to earn them a share of the points in their match with Old Boys at Ed Bush. It was another own goal that broke the deadlock when Old Boy Michael Halsey headed into his own net after 12 minutes. After the break Old Boys came storming back with two goals from the unlikely source of Richard Munden who scrambled the ball home twice from close range.

Then with only seconds remaining and Old Boys’ thoughts were turning towards a significant victory, Munden blotted his copy book when he lunged at Boca’s Olsen Bush inside his penalty box to concede a spot kick. Carlos Welcome scored with the last kick of the ball to rescue a point for a deserved draw.

Prison completed a spirited fight back against Agua FC in their match at TE McFeild Annex after finding themselves two goals down from the first half. Agua took the lead via a third own goal of the day and went two up from a fierce Luciano De Riso drive from outside the box.

The final game of the weekend was the match between Triple Crown Wanderers and MC Devils. Wanderers scored first through Forde Pierson before he was given two yellow cards after the break for dissent.

One minute after the red card Dylan Hume equalised for Devils. Ben Silveira of the Wanderers did rattle the post with a long distant free-kick which bounced to safety, moments later he embarked on a fine solo run resulting in him smashing the ball home for his seventh of the season. These two teams do it again on Sunday when they meet in the CML Cup.
