Rosemarie fancies stretch run

Rising Stars are in good position to challenge for netball kudos in Cayman.

The A team went through the first month of the Cayman Islands Netball Association open league unbeaten. The side has looked good on both sides of the ball, especially offensively behind veteran talents Marcia Moiten and Rosemarie Wilson.

Wilson, 16, states her squad has the potential to battle for the national championship.

“There are a couple of powerful teams out there and win or lose we’ll have team spirit,” Wilson said. “We’ll be a top three team. We usually come third but we’re aiming for first or second.”

The George Town native, whose sister Teneisha Wilson plays for All Stars A, next suits up against Unity A this Saturday, 18 February, at 6.30pm at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. Unity has a new look and alter-ego thanks to their red and black Flames kits. However they have continued to struggle in the standings.

With a new coaching staff, featuring the likes of Milton Clarke, optimism around Unity is high. Among those looking for improvement this season is two-way player Cherita Robinson.

“We’re much better than last year and we will come out victorious,” Robinson said. “We might not win all of our games. But we’ll do the best we can and win some of our games.”

Looking ahead, Rising Stars has a pair of critical games coming up. They take on formidable rookies the Flames Strikers on 1 March before squaring off with defending two-time champions Roma A on 10 March. From there they close out their season against Unity B and All Stars A.

Aside from the Rising Stars-Unity match, Saturday also sees All Stars B taking on Unity B. AS look primed to take the B division crown behind talents like Tishelle Logan and Karen James.
