New head of Family Resource Centre appointed by ministry

Miriam Foster has been confirmed as the head of the Family Resource Centre.

The Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing appointed Ms Foster as the centre’s programme coordinator this month. She had been the acting programme coordinator since August 2011.

Ms Foster joined the then Women’s Resource Centre as an administration intake officer six years ago.

In 2009, the Women’s Resource Centre joined with the National Parenting Programme and the Young Parents Programme to become the Family Resource Centre. Ms Foster went on to become the centre’s programme officer and programme facilitator and later the acting programme coordinator.

While in her acting capacity, she initiated the first celebration of International Men’s Day Celebration in the Cayman Islands, which focused on improving male health while promoting gender equality.

In preparing for the upcoming Honouring Women’s Month in March, Ms Foster and her team are planning activities, including a revamped International Women’s Day Celebration on 8 March at Camana Bay from 6 to 8pm. The event will feature music, competitions and a silent auction.

“I am honoured to be working with a great team and be able to aid in improving the lives of families in the community,” Ms Foster said.

She encouraged families to attend free parenting sessions held on the third Wednesday of every month. Ms Foster also expressed her desire for the public to familiarise itself with the diverse programming options offered by the centre.

“Government is really excited to have Miriam on board with us,” said Cabinet Minister Mike Adam. “I am confident that with her wealth of knowledge, commitment and hard work, she will continue to be a valuable asset to our islands, and in particular, many families.”

“It’s a privilege to do something I love and be able to bring my training and life experience to FRC,” Ms Foster said. “I look forward to this continued journey.”
