Caymanian Mario now in management

Mario Mendez has experienced a remarkable rise at Margaritaville.

Since joining two years ago, the ambitious young Caymanian has risen from bus boy to floor manager.

“I am very happy here and like the job,” he said. “After school I was looking for work to see which options there were available. I am thankful that Chris Redlund, the general manager, gave me the opportunity and I did not want to let him down.

“I like everything about this job – the staff, the interaction with customers. Tourists come to our island and expect Caymanians to be able to tell them about the good stuff,” said the 20-year old from Prospect.

Hard work

Mr. Mendez said it was important to be willing to learn and to put a full 100 per cent into a job. He said if you enjoyed what you were doing it could lead you anywhere.

“I never thought I would be a floor manager, but with hard work I believe you can show what you are capable of,” he said. “When I started here the last thing on my mind was a management job, but after a lot of hard work here I am. You need to get out and experience things.”

Mr. Mendez said at some stage he plans to go back to further education, possibly involving computers.

“I will continue to push myself and see where things go from there,” he said.
