The Department of Commerce and Investment is hosting the sixth annual Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs conference on Thursday, 8 March at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort on West Bay Road.
The keynote speaker is Angela Lee Loy, chairwoman of Aegis Business Solutions Limited, of Trinidad. Co-presenters are local businesswomen Cindy O’Hara and Glenda Dilbert.
Ms Lee Loy is replacing originally scheduled keynote speaker Kathryn Freeland, chief executive officer of consulting services firm Freeland and Associates LLC, who had to cancel her appearance due to unforeseen circumstances, according to a department news release.
Ms Lee Loy’s company provides core outsourcing services to businesses, including in the hospitality, financial, manufacturing and retail industries. She has more than 35 years of experience in auditing and business advisory services with Aegis, PricewaterhouseCoopers and its precursor Price Waterhouse. Among other positions, Ms Lee Loy is former chairwoman of the National AIDS Coordinating Committee and past president of the institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean.
The conference begins at 5.30pm and is preceded by a mini-expo that starts at 4pm. Tickets are $25. Companies wishing to exhibit may purchase booth space for $50.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for persons to get together, exchange ideas and learn from their peers,” said Lesley-Ann Thompson, the department’s head of marketing. “Women look forward to this event every year because it provides them with an unrivalled platform to gain the courage or reassurance they need to break free from the sometimes limiting belief patterns that traditionally hold women back.”
