Rombough has Olympic dreams

Cayman swimmer Joel Rombough was in impressive form in Canada recently.

At the Canadian Interuniversity Sport National Championships in Montreal, representing the University Of Toronto Varsity Blues Rombough clocked 4 minutes 26.45 seconds in the 400 metres individual medley, a drop of five seconds off his personal
best time.

The swim was fast enough to make the A final and qualified him to swim at the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials at the end of March. Rombough, 21, has been having a really good season with solid results throughout the year. This was the last meet of the university season.

The Varsity Blues men’s swimming team was in a tight battle for the title, which came down to the last race, but finished second by a mere 11 points – only one eighth place finish. Rombough’s coaches Byron MacDonald and Linda Kiefer were honoured as CIS men’s swimming coaches of the year.
