Cayman swimmer Joel Rombough was in impressive form in Canada recently.
At the Canadian Interuniversity Sport National Championships in Montreal, representing the University Of Toronto Varsity Blues Rombough clocked 4 minutes 26.45 seconds in the 400 metres individual medley, a drop of five seconds off his personal best time.
The swim was fast enough to make the A final and qualified him to swim at the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials at the end of March. Rombough, 21, has been having a really good season with solid results throughout the year. This was the last meet of the university season.
The Varsity Blues men’s swimming team was in a tight battle for the title, which came down to the last race, but finished second by a mere 11 points – only one eighth place finish. Rombough’s coaches Byron MacDonald and Linda Kiefer were honoured as CIS men’s swimming coaches of the year.
