Touch de road for Carnival fantasy

Batabano, friends, is coming sooner than any of us think.

So it’s time to slim down, muscle up, get limber, wine and think about which band we might want to dance behind.

One of the newest is Island Mas, who are getting ready to touch de road for the first time in 2012.

“Island Mas Cayman came to life by individuals who have years of expertise and credibility in the local and international carnival and promotions industry,” Cedric Gidarsingh says. “[It was] created with passion, creativity and excellence that sets it apart in the dynamic carnival world.”

Launched in 1983, Batabano is held each year during the first week of May. The carnival is a cultural celebration including music, dance and pageantry reflecting the Caribbean’s distinct African and religious influences, including those rooted throughout the Cayman Islands. The adults street parade is scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, 5 May along West Bay Road in Grand Cayman.

The theme this year for Island Mas is Your Carnival Fantasies on the Road – this encompasses three costume sections of Twilight, Aura and Superstars. And they all look ace. So there.

International DJ

DJs mooted for the band include ‘an international Soca DJ’, plus Selecta Renegade, DJ Lin and DJ Von. There’s all sorts of goodies planned including goodie bags, after parties, photographers and paramedics. It’s going to be ‘electric’, Cedric says.

“Be prepared to hit the road in vibrant carnival costumes with Island Mas Cayman – the ultimate Carnival experience for masqueraders,” he says.

Now that’s a throwdown challenge to all the bands on island – Weekender is looking forward to hearing from you all.
