Rising Stars netball club is looking for added public support.
The squad is hosting a fundraiser at Margaritaville in George Town, Grand Cayman. Titled ‘Strictly The Best- The Ultimate Old-School Throwback Bash,’ festivities get under way this Friday, 23 March.
Rising Stars Head Coach Orvin Palacio states the funds will be used to facilitate international competition.
“Our girls are beginning to find their footing on the court and we are seeing a lot of growth and understanding of the game of netball by many of our youth players,” Palacio said. “It is our desire to travel overseas this year with a youth team to allow them to gain necessary experience and exposure.”
Rising Stars currently have an A and B squad in the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league. The A team, made up of veteran players like Marcia Moiten, is currently near the top of the table with only one loss in seven games. The B team, in spite of aspiring players like Alexis Carias, have only one win in four games.
The squads have a number of matches leading up to the end of the season. The A unit play next Thursday, 29 March, against the Ernst and Young Hot Shots before finishing their campaign on 14 April against All Stars A. The B squad have matches against Flames Strikers (24 March), Roma B (31 March), Roma A (19 April) and the Ernst and Young Hot Shots (26 April).
The fundraiser is about generating funding for the Rising Stars club. Music will be provided by Selecta Renegade and DJ Neko. Tickets are $10 pre-sold and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Funky Tangs, Moneygram, Reflections, Styles with a Difference or any Rising Stars netball club member.
