Cayman club went through

The Caribbean Football Union Club Championships were staged at the TE McField Annex this week with George Town taking on North Village Rams at the TE McField Annex in the first game.

George Town had the majority of possession for most of the game but could not capitalise on a host of chances against the Bermudian opposition and it ended 0-0. Elite played the Rams on Tuesday at the same venue and won 2-1 thanks to two strikes by Rene Carter in the 13th and 65th minutes. Keishan Bean got the Rams goal in the 39th minute. The Rams were one man down in the first half after Jason Lee was sent off for foul language.

The final match in the Group 1 series was between the two home sides on Thursday night at the TE McField Annex.

George Town losing star striker Justin Pierre from injury in the opening minutes against the Rams did not help.

He suffered a broken collar bone and will be out for the rest of the season. He said: “It’s annoying because I was really looking forward to these games, but at least one of the Cayman sides has gone through.” Pierre had surgery on Thursday afternoon.

The group winners and the best runners-up of the three groups will advance to the next round in Puerto Rico against the Puerto Rico Islanders and Caledonia AIA of Trinidad in May.
