Scotland hails scholars for effort

The Inter-Secondary Schools meet was a big success considering it was the first year that the two-day event was heavily supported by the Ministry of Sports with backing from major sponsors DART and Maples along with a host of others.

Minister of Sports Mark Scotland congratulated all of the champions in the various categories and all who competed in the championships, over 300 in total from eight schools, including Cayman Brac’s high school, Layman Scott. John Gray Blazers were the dominant team champions.

Scotland said that there were so many positive stories about the competitors at the championships, that they have inspired him to renew his commitment improving on this event next year. He will do it in partnership with the Ministry of Education to make this the premier youth track and field event in Cayman’s sporting calendar.

He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of the event. He especially thanked the Cayman Islands Athletic Association, all the sponsors as well as the Department of Sports, the principals and staff of the various schools and all of the volunteer officials without whom it would not be possible.
